Answers to our most common questions.
Registration & Billing
What is the price?
The per class fee for group lessons at Ready Set Swim in Edgewater is $35. The per class fee for group lessons at Calvert Swim School in Huntingtown is $32.50. Semi-private classes are $55 per class, and private lessons $85 per class.
In a typical month, you will have 4 classes, which equates to $140 for the month. Some months may have 5 classes due to how the weeks fall and some months have 3 classes due to holiday closures, which will be prorated up or down accordingly.
How long are your sessions?
Our enrollment is not session based. We do what we refer to as perpetual enrollment, meaning that you can sign up at any time and hop right into a class, sometimes even the same day.
In the summer months, we do offer our Kick Start program, two week “bootcamp” style lessons that meet four days per week.
How long am I committed to lessons?
The current month. You are never committed for longer than the remainder of the current month. We bill on the first of each month, which covers your lessons for that month. If you choose to drop lessons after that time, you may simply contact us to discontinue. No cancellation fees, no trap commitments. If you choose to continue, your lessons will automatically renew for the following month at the same day and time, so you never have to compete for a time that works once you’re in your class.
How do I cancel lessons?
Simply email us at info@rsswim.com to let us know that you are discontinuing lessons.
What is your refund policy?
We do not offer refunds. Accordingly, we do not trap anyone into long term commitments.
Lessons
How long are lessons? How often?
Lessons are a half hour long and meet once per week. There is a discount for multiple days per week.
Do I need to stay for lessons?
You are not required to stay during your lesson, unless it is a parent taught class, in which case you’ll be in the pool.
What do I need to bring to lessons?
Swimsuit, goggles (optional), a towel, and a change of clothes for after. We recommend basic style swimsuits that will not inhibit a student’s ability to move freely. For boys in the intermediate For boys in intermediate
What is the swim diaper policy?
All children three and under are required to wear a Splash About/Happy Nappy swim bottom. These bottoms are made from swimsuit material and are worn as the swimsuit, but they seal at the legs and waist to provide additional protection. Splash About is the only approved manufacturer at our facility. Acceptable combinations include:
- Happy Nappy Duo
- Splash Jammer Duo
- Happy Nappy Original + Silver Lining Nappy Wrap
- Splash Jammer + Silver Lining Nappy Wrap
- Happy Nappy Wetsuit + Silver Lining Nappy Wrap
- Happy Nappy Original + Disposable swim diaper
- Splash Jammer + Silver Disposable swim diaper
- Happy Nappy Wetsuit + Disposable swim diaper
Which class level do I sign up for?
The quick cheat sheet:
Parent Taught Class – Student is 6 months to 24 months old. Parents in the water with the student.
Beginner Class – 2 years or older with no or very little swim experience. Occasionally students in our parent taught class will be moved up to Beginner if we feel they are ready, sometimes as early as 18 months. We will not artificially hold students back based on age if they show the necessary aptitude for the next level.
Intermediate – Student is able to swim on front and back unassisted (no floaties!) for at least 15 feet.
Advanced – Student shows some proficiency in both front and back stroke and is able to swim unassisted for at least 30 feet.
My child is three (or more) years old, and I would like to be in the pool with them. Can I sign up for a parent taught class?
No. Once your child turns 2, we will place them in the beginner class without parents in the water.
Absences
I need to miss a lesson. Do I lose that class?
You may schedule an absence through the online portal or phone app provided you give at least a 24-hour notice. If your child wakes up sick the day of your lesson, please email so that we may manually enter an absence. Never bring your child to lessons if you believe they are sick.
As a courtesy to others, we request that you schedule absences as far in advance as possible. This provides the greatest opportunity for someone else to schedule their make-ups. Courteous absence scheduling is the only way that our absence and make-up system functions effectively for all.
What is the make-up policy?
Make-up lessons are available for all scheduled or approved absences. You will be able to see all available spots for the coming 7 days and schedule your own make-up in the parent portal or app. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of make-up classes at any specific time or in general.
What is the best way to schedule a make-up?
The best method to schedule a make-up is through the online web portal or phone app. All available spots for the next 7 days will be shown. We do not have access to any secret spots that you can not already see.
Can I get a refund for my unused make-ups?
No. Make-ups are given as a courtousy due to your inability to make your regularly scheduled class. We want you to make the most of your time with us and provide the opportunity to reschedule missed classes, but we cannot guarantee availability nor will we refund for the classes that you missed.
Can I apply my unused make-ups to future enrollment?
No. Same as above. Make-ups are given as a courtousy due to your inability to make your regularly scheduled class. We want you to make the most of your time with us and provide the opportunity to reschedule missed classes, but we cannot guarantee availability nor will we credit future classes for past classes that you missed.
Do make-ups expire? Is there a cap?
Make-ups will not expire so long as you are continuously enrolled. There is currently no cap. Make-ups typically only exist due to another student scheduling an absence. If this policy becomes a problem, we may evaluate capping or limiting make-ups, but for now we have not had the need to do so.
Facility
Your pools seem small. How do you teach older or more advanced swimmers?
We have four swim currents. Despite the size of the pools, students can swim more continuous distance and perform more stroke repetitions than is possible in a conventional pool. The swim currents allow our instructors to stand next to the student as they swim and provide immediate corrections and feedback. We also have swim mirrors at the bottom of the pool that provide students with immediate visual feedback.
Can I use the rear door?
No. The rear door is our staff entrance and is not left unlocked during the day.
Is there WiFi?
Yes. Please ask at the desk.
General
I’ve tried calling and no one has gotten back to me. How do I reach you?
Our phone is not continuously staffed. If you are unable to reach us by phone, email is by far the best method to reach us at info@rsswim.com. Many functions of our lessons, such as enrollment, absences, and make-ups, can be performed on your own through use of our web portal or phone app.
